Identity for an exhibition of Indian artifacts at the Yale Peabody Museum, Abandoned.☸
The Yale Peabody Museum has over ten thousand artifacts of Indian origin in its possession. Over time, these objects have been abandoned, either by force or by time. Abandoned gives these artifacts a second life, while also critiquing the displacement of these trinkets.

Set in Styro by Indian Type Foundry—a nod to contemporary Indian design—the logo becomes a flexible container for images of the exhibition's artifacts. It serves as a vessel for their visibility, but also obstructs (even jails) the artifacts, underscoring their inherent displacement from India. I admire the museum's preservation and care for these objects, but I wanted to confront the truth that these objects were, in one way or another, removed from their homes and now remain mostly unseen and unappreciated. This system attempts to capture that nuance, to both critique and celebrate the collection.
